A delegation from the University of Adelaide visited UMCP to sign an MOU to collaborate on education and research. The event organized by Ross Lewin, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, provided an opportunity to initiate discussions on areas for potential collaboration.
The University of Maryland and the University of Adelaide have already established a strong partnership between our Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) and their Defense and Security Institute, and Adelaide is interested to expand upon its relationship with UMD with a focus on global grand challenges. Areas of common research interest included climate change, the environment, remote sensing of agriculture and global sustainability.
Chris Justice (GEOG) and Mengxue Li (BSOS) attended the meeting and had an introductory meeting with Professor John Culton, the University of Adelaide's Director of The Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources (ATCSR). Chris Justice introduced the research activities of the Department and the role of the International Geo-Innovation Center. Mengxue Li talked about BSOS and outlined some possibilities for international educational and student exchange programs.
