Summer School Opening Ceremony

The International GEO Center held its inaugural event, the first International Quantitative Remote Sensing Summer School from July 5 – 13th 2022, in collaboration with Wuhan University and the University of Hong Kong. The summer school held talks in English and Chinese by speakers from multiple international institutions and was very well-received with more than 5000 total registrations.  – predominantly students and young researchers.

UMD GEOG faculty speakers included Alexandra Tyukavina, Joanne Hall, Xiaopeng Song, Sergii Skakun, Dongdong Wang, and Ralph Dubayah who gave talks on topics covering GLAD lab products, remote sensing of fire, agriculture monitoring, land cover and land use change, shortwave radiation and the GEDI mission. The director of the International GEO Center, Professor Ralph Dubayah, the Center Task Force chair, Professor Chris Justice and Professor Shunlin Liang were instrumental in setting up this collaboration with Wuhan University and the University of Hong Kong to initiate the International Summer School.
